USMLE and COMLEX accommodations
Requests, documentation and appeals, handled with you from start to finish.
NBME reviews USMLE accommodation requests for all Step exams, and as of June 2026 those requests are submitted through the MyUSMLE portal. NBME states that it reviews requests within 60 business days, so the timeline has to fit your exam schedule.
Who decides: NBME Disability Services on behalf of the USMLE program (NBOME for COMLEX). Policies and deadlines change, so always confirm current rules on the official accommodations page.
How the process works
- Complete your Step exam application, then submit the accommodations request through the MyUSMLE portal.
- Include a personal statement, current evaluation and records of past accommodations, along with any medical school support letter.
- If NBME denies or partially approves the request, respond to its stated reasons before you lose your testing window.
Where requests go wrong
- Assuming accommodations on the MCAT or in medical school mean automatic approval.
- A diagnosis made after matriculation without longitudinal evidence.
- Starting too late for a 60-business-day review.
How we help with USMLE and COMLEX accommodations
We review your history and documentation, identify gaps before you file, coordinate with your school, program or evaluator, and prepare a request that answers the questions reviewers actually ask. If you have already been denied, we map each stated reason to the evidence that addresses it and build the appeal or reconsideration.
Already denied? Deadlines to respond are often short. Contact us as soon as you receive the decision, and see our guide to what to do after a denial.
Talk it through before you file
Tell us which exam you are taking, your test date and where things stand. The first consultation is free, and we will tell you honestly whether we think we can help.
